Privacy policy

Birkly is an open-source CMS project built in Denmark. This policy explains what data we collect through the birkly.cloud website, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

Who is responsible for your data

What we collect and why

We collect only data you actively give us:

• Waitlist submissions — name (optional), email address, and your role. We use this to send you an early-access invite when seats open.
• Contact form submissions — name, email address, subject, and message. We use this to reply to your enquiry.
• Sponsor pledge submissions — name, email address, pledge amount, and whether you want to appear publicly.
• Donations — one-time and monthly donations are processed by Stripe Checkout. Birkly does not store your full card details; Stripe processes the payment. We may receive your name, email, donation amount, cadence (one-time or monthly), and a Stripe session reference so we can thank you and show public supporters when you opt in.

We collect no analytics, no tracking pixels, no cookies for advertising, and no fingerprinting data on the marketing site.

Legal basis for processing

We process this data based on your consent (submitting a form is an active, informed choice) and, for donations, to take the steps necessary to fulfil that transaction (Art. 6(1)(a) and 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us.

Who we share data with

We use the following processors to run this site:

• Stripe — payment processing for donations, under Stripe's own privacy policy and safeguards for any processing outside the EU.
• Our hosting provider — stores form submissions and site data on servers located in the EU.
• Google Fonts and jsDelivr (CDN) — deliver the fonts and the GSAP animation library used on this site. Loading these resources sends your IP address to Google's and jsDelivr's servers as part of the request.

How long we keep it

Waitlist, contact, and partnership submissions are kept for as long as needed to respond to you, or until you ask us to delete them. Donation and supporter records are kept for accounting purposes as required under the Danish Bookkeeping Act (Bogføringsloven), typically 5 years.

Cookies and local storage

We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking. We use your browser's local storage only for strictly necessary functionality: remembering your language choice, showing a smooth page transition, and keeping track of an in-progress donation checkout. Under the ePrivacy rules, strictly necessary storage like this does not require consent.

Where your data is stored

Form submissions are stored in the Birkly CMS on a server located in the EU. Payment data is handled by Stripe under their terms and privacy policy.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your data. Email hello@birkly.cloud. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet), Carl Jacobsens Vej 35, 2500 Valby, Denmark — datatilsynet.dk.
